Recently a friend of mine let me borrow their Oculus Quest - Facebook's portable, standalone, VR headset. The intention was to let me try VR for a while, and allow me to decide whether or not I want to get a headset of my own. Over the course of a few years, I've kept an eye out for VR news. But now that I've upgraded my desktop to be VR compatible, I think its now time to do some serious research into the headsets.
I've been mainly eyeing the HTC Vive and Valve Index. While the Oculus Rifts are significantly cheaper, Oculus is now owned by Facebook. I know its virtually impossible to escape the tech giants' data harvesting grasp, but I would like to escape it as much as possible. Hence why I'm steering away from Oculus, hence why I have this blog, etc... .
I'll eventually write a blog post about my feelings towards the tech giants and that whole tin-foil hat stuff.
Anyways, digression aside; My focus is on HTC Vive and Valve Index. Over the next little while, I'll do a bit of research on the headset market and I'll post my findings on my blog.
